What We Build

We build detached garages and workshops in the Hill Country in a range of sizes and configurations. A basic two or three-car garage. A large workshop with a bathroom and separate office space. A combination garage and equipment storage building. If you can describe what you need, we can build it.

Most of our detached garages and workshops are built with either wood frame or steel construction depending on the size, use, and the client's preference. We will walk you through the differences and tell you which makes more sense for your specific project.

HCBR Texas builds detached garages and workshops throughout the Texas Hill Country. We have been doing exactly that out here for over 40 years. If you need more space on your property for vehicles, tools, equipment, or a dedicated work area, we build it to fit how you actually use your land.

Function First

Built to Actually Work

A lot of our workshop clients in the Hill Country want a space they can use year-round. That means insulation, HVAC, and the right door clearance for the vehicles and equipment going in and out. We build for function first. The square footage, the door sizes, the floor load, the electrical. All of it gets figured out before the first wall goes up.

If you want the building wired for power, plumbed for a bathroom, or set up with a loft for storage, we handle that too. We do not build a box and leave the rest to you.

How We Work

Three Ways to Build

Every detached garage and workshop project gets a written contract with the price locked in before work starts. The number we quote is the number you pay. No surprises. No change orders that weren't discussed. We handle all permitting for the county your property is in.

Tier 1

Turnkey

We build the entire garage or workshop start to finish, from the slab to the finished space. You show up when it is done.

Tier 2

Sweat Equity

We put up the structure and take it to the point where you can finish the interior yourself, saving on labor.

Tier 3

Combination

We handle the heavy work and you take on whatever finish work makes sense for your budget and skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Garage & Workshop Questions

Should I build my garage or workshop in wood frame or steel?

It depends on the size and how you will use it. Steel makes sense for larger spans and heavy use. Wood frame can be the better fit for smaller buildings or a look that matches your house. We walk you through the tradeoffs for your project.

Can you build a workshop with a bathroom and office?

Yes. We build workshops with plumbing for a bathroom, wiring for power and equipment, climate control, and separate office or loft space. We build for how you actually plan to use it.

Do I need a permit for a detached garage or workshop in the Hill Country?

In most cases, yes, and the rules vary by county. We handle the permitting for your county as part of the project so you do not have to chase it.

How big can you build it?

We build detached garages and workshops in a wide range of sizes, from a simple two-car structure to a large equipment-and-shop building. Tell us what you need to fit inside and we size it around that.
